How to download your Google Ads change history

Published October 2, 2026

In Google Ads, open the Campaigns menu and select Change history. Pick a date range in the upper right corner (Google keeps the past 2 years), add any filters, then use the download icon above the table and choose CSV. The file lists each change with its date, user, campaign and details.

Where change history lives

Change history is a page in the Campaigns menu of Google Ads. It lists the changes made to the account, its campaigns and its ad groups. Google keeps the past 2 years: data older than that isn't available, so download it before it ages out if you want a long record.

You can also open it for a single campaign or ad group. Select the campaign or ad group on the Campaigns or Ad groups page, then select Change history. That view only shows changes inside what you selected.

Download the change history, step by step

  1. Sign in to Google Ads and open the account you want to look at.
  2. Open the Campaigns menu and select Change history.
  3. Select the dates in the upper right corner and choose your date range. For a first look, the last 90 days is a good start. You can go back as far as 2 years.
  4. Leave the filters off if you plan to run the change history check. The check needs both Google's changes and people's changes to show them side by side. If you only want to read the page, see the filters below.
  5. Select the download icon above the table, then Download, then a CSV format.
  6. Save the file as it is. Opening it in a spreadsheet and saving it again can change the date format the check reads.

Change history shows each change with the user who made it, the date and time, the campaign and a description of the change. You can undo most types of change made in the last 30 days from the same page.

Filters worth knowing

Google lets you narrow the list by campaign, ad group, change type, user, tool, item changed and campaign experiment. Selecting a change type in the summary at the top filters the list to just that type.

Two filters answer the most common questions:

  • Change type, for one kind of change such as budgets or keywords.
  • User, for changes made by one person or by a Google system.

Remove the filters again before you download a file for the check, so nothing is left out.

Google's changes appear next to people's

Change history doesn't only list changes made by people. Google says changes made by its automated or internal systems can appear under users such as "Google Ads system" or "ads-dartsearch-budget". Recommendations that Google applied automatically also show up here. Changes made through the Google Ads API, for example by a third-party tool or script, can show "Google Ads API" or the tool's name in the user column.

The exact label varies with the kind of change, so read the user column rather than assuming every row came from a person.

The format the change history check accepts

The change history check reads the CSV file straight from Google Ads. It needs:

  • A comma-separated CSV downloaded from the English Google Ads interface.
  • The columns Date & time, User and Changes. A Campaign column is used when present.
  • At least one change, covering no more than 2 years.
  • A file of up to 5 MB. If yours is larger, download a shorter date range.

If a column is missing, the check names it and asks for the download again. It groups changes into Google's changes (auto-apply and AI Max), people grouped by email domain, and others, which includes tools and scripts. Enter your email or domain on the page and your own changes show as You.

What this can't tell you

  • A download only covers the dates you chose. Work done outside Google Ads, such as reports, calls and landing pages, never appears in it.
  • If several people share one login, their changes look like one person's.
  • Change history can't tell you whether a change helped. That needs performance data.
  • Not every Google change is bad. Some auto-applied changes help, and fewer edits can simply mean a settled account.

Check the file

Upload the CSV to the change history check to see, in plain English, what Google changed automatically next to the changes people made. It needs no sign-in and doesn't keep your file.

To keep a running record instead of a one-off download, connect Google Ads: Solimarketer keeps a change ledger of the changes Google reports, with who or what made each one, and sends a weekly digest. It never changes anything in the account.
